If the Hornets play like they did last night, they’ll win this game. They can play like 85% of what they did last night and still win this game. The Cavaliers are the best team in the league, and the Hornets very legitimately competed with them for four quarters of basketball. The only thing the Hornets lost out to the Cavs on was free throw shooting volume.
They just need to bring that same competitive spirit tonight, which will admittedly be tough on a back to back against a significantly less relevant team. The Nets have had some moments of overachieving this season, but they’re on a downturn right now. They’ve lost six straight games, though it’s been a somewhat difficult stretch of the schedule. They’re coming off their own surprisingly competitive game in which they lost by only two to the Warriors.
Cam Thomas is back and doing his usual leading the team in scoring even with his 3-point shooting not with him right now. The other Cam, Johnson, is probably the only other reliable player available tonight. He’s capable of getting hot and pouring in threes like he did the first time these teams played. D’Angelo Russell is there too but he hasn’t been doing much.
We’ll see how well the Hornets can build off last night’s impressive performance against the Cavs.
