The New York Giants have officially resigned quarterback Tommy DeVito ahead of free agency. DeVito is now the only signal-caller that New York has under contract as things stand.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on social media.
New York is expected to go after a quarterback in either the draft or free agency. But keeping DeVito in the mix does help in terms of overall depth.
DeVito took the NFL by storm a few years ago when he made his NFL debut for the Giants. In 2023, he played in nine games for the Giants, starting six of them.
The signal-caller threw for 1,101 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions in those games. DeVito also rushed for 195 yards and one score as well.
The quarterback took a backseat to Daniel Jones this past season but did see some game action. DeVito played in three games, starting two of them, while throwing for 257 yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.
DeVito will likely be the backup for the Giants this coming season unless they completely strike out on the quarterback market. New York has been linked with veteran Aaron Rodgers in free agency and he could give them some sense of relevancy at the position.

Rodgers could be a placeholder for the Giants as they look for a young quarterback to lead them in the future. New York has also been linked to Colorado Buffalos quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Sanders could be a strong addition for the Giants, giving them the potential of a franchise quarterback moving forward. But no matter where the Giants go with the quarterback position, they have to get it right.
The Giants have missed the playoffs two years in a row and another wasted season could be detrimental. They finished with a record of 3-14 this past season.
New York has been looking for a true franchise signal-caller since Eli Manning left town and it's hurt them on the field. The fate of the front office personnel and head coach Brian Daboll likely rests on the decisions made this offseason.
