Report: Jonathan David decides on next move amid Newcastle transfer interest

Jonathan David is likely to be a man in demand this summer.

Newcastle United are reportedly one of the clubs interested in David, who will be out of contract at Lille in the summer.

Indeed, Newcastle have scouted David for a while now and it’s easy to see why.

Available on a free in a matter of months, the 25-year-old has a proven track record in one of Europe’s top five leagues. David has scored 84 goals in 168 Ligue 1 games, while recording 14 assists.

In the Champions League, his record stands at nine goals and two assists in 17 appearances.

Certainly, David would be arriving at his next club with pedigree, even if the French top flight is perhaps not quite as competitive as the Premier League.

It was recently claimed that Barcelona are in talks to sign David for free this summer, although there has since been a development.

Newcastle admire David and could potentially be on the lookout for a new forward this summer, with Callum Wilson out of contract at the end of the season as things stand.

Still, landing him won’t be easy. Tottenham have also been linked with David, while the Barca links are difficult to ignore.

However, according to Caught Offside, David is currently leaning towards moving to the Premier League this summer – albeit he is unlikely to rush into any decision on his future.

Jonathan David stats and contract ahead of summer transfer move

Soon to be a free agent, the striker is in a strong bargaining position ahead of his next move.

In fact, David is reportedly looking for around £100k-per-week from his next club, which would move him in line with Newcastle’s top earners.

Newcastle have seven players earning £100k-per-week or more, so bringing David in on that kind of money would be a big decision even if the lack of a transfer fee involved helps.

The benefits could outweigh the positives, however.

David has a proven track record of scoring goals at a pretty high level. With Wilson potentially off, he’d certainly be a logical addition.
