Antonio Conte has admitted prized midfielder Scott McTominay has been overworked in recent weeks.
And the Napoli boss has hinted at a rest for the ex-Manchester United man as the Serie A title race approaches the home stretch. Following his debut off the bench against Cagliari in September, McTominay has started every one of Napoli’s 23 league matches since then and has only been substituted twice.
The Scotland international has become a firm favourite in the south of Italy chipping in with six goals and four assists to take his side one point off the league summit. However, former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss Conte has admitted that McTominay may not feature against Fiorentina on Sunday as a result of the minutes he has played so far this term.
“He had an overload, he trained a little less than the others for a couple of days,” Conte revealed during his pre-match press conference on Saturday. “We have 24 hours and we will evaluate the best solution together with the boy.”

Conte was, however, pleased with fellow Scot Billy Gilmour, who started with McTominay in the 1-1 draw with table-toppers Inter last weekend. And the former Brighton man is tipped to play a key role.
“Gilmour had a great chance against Inter and I was clear with the boys: In the last 11 games, those who are deserving will play," Conte said. "There is no fixed place. There are 11 games, 11 battles, 11 finals. Gilmour did very well against Inter, he will play against Fiorentina. Will he do well, or will he play in the next one? Those on the outside will have to change my mind.”
