Jaxon Smith-Njigba Has Priceless Reaction to Geno Smith Trade

The Las Vegas Raiders set out to secure a veteran quarterback this offseason; that mission was achieved when they acquired Geno Smith on Friday.

Las Vegas sent a third-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Smith, who will join his former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.

The Seahawks are performing some construction to their roster having released Tyler Lockett earlier in the week while looking for a trade partner for DK Metcalf.

That leaves Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the third-year receiver who just polished off a 1,000-yard campaign.

Smith-Njigba and Smith developed a steady rapport in 2024. Njigba led the Seahawks with 137 targets for 100 catches and six touchdown grabs.

Following the Smith trade, Smith-Njigba shared his stunned reaction on X.

"Broooo I just got up," Smith-Njigba said in the post. "You lying."

His reaction was in response to his brother Canaan Smith-Njigba posting, "Jaxon wake up you gotta see this."

This wasn't the first blind-sided reaction that Smith-Njigba posted this week. When Metcalf's trade request to the Seahawks broke, Smith-Njigba said, "Ayooo wtf" on X.

Smith revitalized his career in Seattle after stepping in for Russell Wilson in 2022, delivering a career-high 69.8% completion rate and 4,282 yards while leading the Seahawks to an unexpected playoff appearance.

His breakout season earned him a three-year, $75 million contract, but he struggled to recapture that same level of success thereafter, keeping Seattle competitive in division races but ultimately missing the postseason in 2023 and 2024.

Smith-Njigba, 23, probably won't have to wait much longer to learn who his next quarterback will be, as free agency kicks off Monday and the Seahawks are expected to pursue either Sam Darnold or Aaron Rodgers.
