After freak-athlete receiver D.K. Metcalf requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks, it was hard not to fantasize pairing him with CeeDee Lamb on the Dallas Cowboys.
The two would immediately be one of the most lethal receiver duos in the NFL.
Well ... after hearing what Seattle and Metcalf are expecting in return from his trade ... it is likely the Cowboys have woken up from that dream.
Sources say the Seahawks are seeking a first-round and third-round draft pick in exchange for Metcalf. Then, D.K. expects a new contract offer valued at around $30 million a year.
Yikes.
That's 2 major reasons for Dallas to not go there.
Reports say "multiple teams have inquired", and while Dallas may very well still be one of them having those conversations, it is hard to imagine the Cowboys coughing up a package that large.
After all, Dallas is only looking for a WR2 next to Lamb.
According to OverTheCap, there are six other receivers - including Lamb - who make north of $30 million a year in the NFL.
The others include Minnesota's Justin Jefferson, Philadelphia's A.J. Brown, Detroit's Amon-Ra St. Brown, Miami's Tyreek Hill and San Francisco's Brandon Aiyuk.

While Metcalf deserves to be in that upper echelon ... it would be silly to pay that much money for him to be a second option.
As trade negotiation meetings continue, don't be surprised if this initial asking price dips a bit. This could be a ploy for Seattle to fish for as large a catch as possible, then eventually settle for a smaller bite.
Metcalf totaled 992 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 2024 with Seattle. After six seasons with the Seahawks, he is now searching for a new home.
Although Dallas could pair him with his old offensive coordinator in Brian Schottenheimer, Seattle's asking price is way out of the Cowboys' free agency budget for a No. 2 receiver.
