Report: Liverpool have key advantage over Arsenal in £70m transfer battle

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Benjamin Sesko but will have to contend with interest from Arsenal.

Liverpool are enjoying a strong season across all competitions (excluding the FA Cup) and remain in contention for major silverware.

However, Arne Slot has had to make the most of the squad at his disposal, and there’s no doubt that improving certain areas could further strengthen the team for the 2025/26 campaign.

One key issue has been the lack of a consistent striker.

Darwin Nunez has struggled with fluctuating form, while Diogo Jota’s recurring injury problems have left Liverpool short of reliable options up front.

As a result, Slot has been forced to adapt, at times deploying Luis Diaz as a false nine.

Liverpool keen on Benjamin Sesko to solve no. 9 dilemma

To address this concern, Liverpool are exploring striker options ahead of the summer transfer window. One name that has been linked with the Reds is RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

TalkSPORT reported in January that Arsenal were leading the race for the highly-rated Slovenian forward, who has a £70 million valuation.

However, according to journalist Dean Jones via GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool have now emerged as a serious contenders for his signature.

Sesko has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 17 goals and registering five assists across all competitions.

His performances have caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs, with both Liverpool and Arsenal showing strong interest.

Liverpool have an edge over Arsenal in Sesko pursuit

In a new report from GMS, Jones suggested that Liverpool could have the upper hand over Arsenal in the battle to sign Sesko, partly due to the influence of Jurgen Klopp.

He said: “Liverpool’s position in the race could give them an edge over Arsenal, especially with the influence of Jurgen Klopp.

“His new role as global head of soccer at Red Bull could play a part in swaying Sesko towards Anfield, particularly given the German tactician’s past rivalry with Arsenal and Arteta.”

With Liverpool actively seeking a new no. 9 and Sesko fitting the profile of a long-term solution, this could be a transfer battle to watch closely in the coming months.

If the Reds can sell Nunez to a Saudi Pro League team, they can offset a large chunk of the cost involved in signing Sesko.
