Official: Barcelona vs Osasuna postponed due to staff member’s death

The La Liga fixture between FC Barcelona and Osasuna, scheduled for Matchday 27, has been suspended, the club has confirmed.

The decision follows the passing of a member of Barcelona’s medical team, Carlos Minarro Garcia, the first-team doctor, just hours before kick-off.

Naturally, the entire squad and staff were left in a state of deep shock and asked for the match to be suspended.

As news of the tragedy broke, Osasuna’s players and goalkeepers, who were warming up on the pitch, immediately withdrew. No Barcelona players had taken to the field at that moment.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta personally went down to the dressing room to inform the players that the match would not take place.

A meeting was swiftly held between La Liga, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and Barcelona. Given the gravity of the situation, the decision to suspend the match was reached in mutual agreement.

Our deepest condolences and support go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time.
