Arsenal handed transfer fund boost on top of £74m pot after night of magic

Arsenal are set to pocket a hefty £10.5million bonus following their record-breaking Champions League last 16 victory over PSV in Holland on Tuesday.

The 7-1 thrashing marked the club's largest ever away win in the competition, surpassing the 5-1 obliteration of Sporting in November and the renowned 5-1 victory over Inter Milan in 2003.

A staggering £2.06billion prize money is available in this season's Champions League and the Gunners are well on track for another significant payday.

Any club that advances to the quarter-finals will receive a guaranteed £10.5m sum - this is before potential broadcasting bonuses are factored in - and Arsenal have already secured £73.55m from their third-place group stage finish.

Meanwhile, table leaders Liverpool have amassed a lucrative £80.91m in prize money so far and that could rise to £91.41m if they secure a win against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.

The Reds returned from the Parc des Princes with a 1-0 lead on aggregate thanks to Harvey Elliott's late goal, despite PSG's dominance.

Aston Villa are also on course to reach the last eight where they could potentially face Arne Slot's Reds following their impressive 3-1 victory against Club Brugge in Belgium. The Villains have already earned £58.67m from the group stages where they narrowly advanced in eighth place to avoid an undesirable play-off match. Last season, reaching the quarter-finals was worth £9.1m indicating a £1.4m increase this term.
