The New York Jets have made the decision to move on from Aaron Rodgers. With that decision being made, they will need to bring in a new starting quarterback.
Tyrod Taylor could be in consideration for that role, but it wouldn't be an ideal scenario.
Instead, it's much more likely that the Jets will look to add an outside quarterback this offseason. Whether that quarterback comes from free agency or the draft, there are plenty of options for New York to consider.
A new potential option has been suggested for the Jets that would make for a head-scratching answer to replacing Rodgers.
Rodgers, a 41-year-old quarterback, simply does not offer New York a long-term option. However, neither would Kirk Cousins, who has now been suggested as a potential target.
Cousins was suggested as a possible candidate for the Jets by ESPN's Rich Cimini.
"Kirk Cousins could be an option if he shakes free from the Atlanta Falcons, who demoted him last season after signing him to a four-year, $180 million contract," Cimini wrote. "Cousins, 36, is coming off his worst season, but injuries may have been a factor. Jets senior football adviser Rick Spielman, formerly the Vikings' GM, signed Cousins as a free agent in 2018."
Replacing Rodgers with a 36-year-old Cousins would be an interesting decision.
During the 2024 NFL season with the Falcons, Cousins played in 14 games. By the end of the season, he was replaced as the starter by rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
He completed 66.9% of his passes for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.
