Report: Newcastle could break transfer record to finally sign 'very talented' star who rejected …

Newcastle United have shown a willingness to wait for their targets.

Such has been the coherent way in which Newcastle United have built their squad under PIF’s ownership, very rarely have they got things wrong in the transfer market.

Indeed, Newcastle have one of the most valuable squads in world football for a reason. They boast some excellent players, many of whom have been brought up a level at St James’ Park.

After all, Eddie Howe admitted signing Alexander Isak for £63m was a risk, though that has proven to be a masterstroke.

When the club decide on a player, they are seemingly ready to bide their time until the opportunity to sign them arises. The likes of Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon were finally signed the window after the one in which links and reports of Newcastle’s interest emerged.

Now, all that brings us to a certain Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle could relaunch Hugo Ekitike interest in record-breaking move

Ekitike rejected Newcastle back in 2022, before the signing of Isak.

Clearly, that has worked out for Newcastle. Isak has been hailed as “world class” and rightly so after making such a success of his time on Tyneside.

Ekitike eventually joined Paris Saint-Germain from Reims and initially struggled. However, a move to Eintracht Frankfurt has worked wonders for the 22-year-old, who has scored 18 goals in 35 appearances this season.

According to Christian Falk’s Daily Briefing, Newcastle are seriously interested in relaunching their interest in Ekitike, particularly if Isak leaves this summer.

It’s claimed that Frankfurt would demand €80million for the Frenchman, which equates to roughly £67.1million – more than the fee paid for Isak.

Eddie Howe has already given rave reviews about Hugo Ekitike

Howe has hailed Ekitike as “very talented”, having scouted him a number of years ago.

Though the idea of first selling Isak and then replacing him with a player who has already snubbed Newcastle would hardly be very popular, few can doubt his performances this season.

Struggling at PSG is understandable. Ekitike was competing for a starting berth alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the time. That is almost an impossible task for a young player.

In an ideal world, Newcastle would be able to keep Isak and sign a player as good as Ekitike. If the sad day comes that Isak has to leave, however, then perhaps the Frenchman isn’t a bad way to go in terms of sourcing a replacement.

All will be forgotten if he did the business on the pitch…
