Report: Staten Island football product to get cut from NFL team

Tottenville High School football product Gus Edwards' time with the Los Angeles Chargers was shortlived.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Chargers will cut ties with the powerful running back after just one season.

The former Rutgers University alum was second on the Chargers last year with 365 yards on 101 carries. He scored four touchdowns.

Last offseason, Edwards, who had spent six successful seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, had signed a two-year $6.5 million deal with Los Angeles.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, however, wants to go in a new direction.

Edwards is just 29 and will most likely be picked up when the free-agent signing period begins on Monday.

In 2023, Edwards scored a career-high 13 TDs with the Ravens. He also rushed for a career-best 810 yards that season.
