Mohamed Salah shares Sergio Aguero verdict after moving level with Man City legend on all-time…

Manchester City have been the football club of many legendary players over the decades, with a fair few playing for the team over the last 15 or so years.

However, when it comes to players big enough to have statues outside the Etihad Stadium, that list is narrowed down to six – for the time being.

The Manchester City legends in question are Colin Bell, Francis Lee, Mike Summerbee, Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

On Saturday, Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah spoke highly of Aguero after matching the Argentine’s Premier League goal tally.

Salah scored twice for Liverpool against Southampton to take his Premier League goal tally to 184, the same as Aguero’s record in the English top flight.

The Reds man described Aguero as a “great player” who is a Premier League legend and said it was a “good record” to be matching.

“I knew about the record but I didn’t think about it while I was playing,” Salah told the Liverpool website.

“But I know about the record. It’s a good record to be equalising; Sergio is a great player, he was a legend here for the league.

“So I’m happy about that and I’m happy about the win as well.”

Sergio Aguero’s Manchester City career

Aguero joined Man City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for a then club record £38million.

It proved a bargain in the end, as Aguero went on to carve his name in City and Premier League folklore.

Aguero made 390 competitive appearances for City, registering 260 goals in all competitions, plus 64 assists.

The Argentina icon won five Premier League titles, six League Cups, one FA Cup and three Community Shields while at City.

Aguero was also responsible for one of the most iconic moments in football history, the goal against Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the 2011/12 season.

That goal enabled City to win their first league title of the Premier League era, at the expense of bitter rivals Manchester United.
