Rangers and the 49ers are pushing to get a takeover across the line at Ibrox as soon as possible.

Delaware-based company 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC, who also own Leeds United, have agreed a deal in principle already at Ibrox.

Rangers were back in the headlines recently after a huge 3-1 win over Fenerbahce in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 in Turkiye.

Goals from Vaclav Cerny and Cyriel Dessers leave Barry Ferguson with one foot in the quarter finals.

Such a development is certain to set tongues wagging in the blue half of Glasgow, while a source close to Leeds United chairman and 49ers president Paraag Marathe recently sung his praises.

Rangers sit 16 points behind rivals Celtic

When the 49ers complete their Rangers takeover, their main priority will be to close the gap between the Light Blues and Celtic, who are set to lift their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title.

Ferguson and Rangers know importance of Fenerbahce second leg

Disappointingly, Celtic surely boast an unassailable lead over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, so the Light Blues will not lift their first title since 2021 this term.

The Gers also suffered a devastating penalty shootout defeat to Celtic in last December’s League Cup final, before suffering an embarrassing home defeat to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup last month.

Therefore, Rangers’ last chance of winning silverware this term lies in the Europa League, and such a success would mark the completion of a memorable underdog triumph.

But after defeating Fenerbahce 3-1 on away soil last Thursday (6 March), Ferguson’s men proved their worth and showed that they are capable of booking their spot in the last eight.

But now is not the time for Rangers to let complacency slip into their game, as the success of their entire campaign may hinge on next week’s huge Round of 16 second-leg tie at Ibrox.
