Peter Crouch was stunned by the nature of Jack Harrison’s goal for Everton in their 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux on Saturday night.

Harrison, 28, scored for the first time this season after taking advantage of a slack piece of defending by Wolves, just days after David Moyes called on the winger to contribute more to his attack.

However, the home side managed to atone for their errors at the back just seven minutes later when Marshall Munetsi scored his debut goal in English football.

Everton moved up to 14th in the Premier League table with their point at Molineux, while Wolves are now six points clear of the bottom three.

Emmanuel Agbadou sloppily gifted Everton possession in his own half while trying to play the ball out from the back, allowing Jesper Lindstrom to spray a pass across to Harrison, who was in acres of space on the edge of the Wolves box.

The on-loan Leeds attacker was then allowed plenty of time to set himself up for a shot, something which Joe Cole and Crouch found unacceptable from Wolves’ perspective.

“He gets it, it’s difficult for [Matt] Doherty to get there but he needs to be paying closer attention to it. He strikes it and at this stage, Everton were in it,” said Cole on TNT Sports (8:53pm, 8 March).

“He sets himself here with two touches. That shouldn’t happen,” said Crouch.

“He was a bit fortunate with the deflection but [he got a bit of help].”

Harrison answers Moyes’ prayers in Wolves v Everton

Before Everton’s trip to the West Midlands, Moyes called on Harrison to contribute more towards his side’s goals.

Moyes’ comments were a borderline threat to Harrison, saying that the Leeds loanee won’t last long in his plans if he doesn’t start getting goals or assists.

“Both players are yet to register on either front this season. Let’s be fair – you won’t have longevity if you’re not going to get me assists and goals,” said the Blues boss.

“You have to find ways of coming up with those numbers. I think both have done well but I need goals from them, I need assists from them. They both need to improve greatly on that.”

Harrison has hardly been prolific with the direct goal contributions.

In his 63 appearances across all competitions as an Everton player, he’s scored five times and assisted only three goals.
