The top wide receiver on the free agent market is Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver and Penn State legend Chris Godwin. It is the name the Pittsburgh Steelers want to land the most, and for good reason. Before suffering a broken ankle to end his season early, Godwin was having a star season under offensive coordinator Liam Coen.
In just seven games, Godwin had nearly 600 receiving yards in his new role, acting as the Buccaneers' version of Puka Nacua. He has shined in his career, earning a Pro Bowl and All-Pro nod in 2019.
Godwin, who has over 7000 career receiving yards, has spent his entire career with the Buccaneers since being selected by the team in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
However, how much would Godwin command on the open market? The New England Patriots are expected to be one of the teams looking to land wide receiver help, and Godwin is their top target. Mike Giradi of ESPN reports that league executives how told him to anticipate a market around $20 to $22 million per year for Godwin.
That is a steep price but one that is worth it for Godwin, who is a borderline No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL. For a team like the Steelers, who could need one of those players, getting into the sweepstakes and paying Godwin, who is still just 29, would be a wise move.
