The Dallas Mavericks are reeling in the wake of losing their superstar guard Kyrie Irving to a season-ending injury. On Saturday, in the wake of the Mavericks 122-111 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, Irving shared a strong message in a post on social media that quickly caught the attention of fans.
Irving's season came to an end on Monday in Dallas' 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings when he suffered a torn ACL. In a season where the Mavericks have dealt with a plethora of injuries, the fear is that this could be a knockout blow for the team. In the aftermath of the injury, Irving thanked everyone for their outpouring of support.
"It hasn't been 48 hours since I tore my ACL but the recovery process already started mentally, spiritually, emotionally. So just wanted to let you guys know that I'm okay and I will be okay moving forward. It does suck a lot. I ain't gonna lie to you guys. This one stings for sure," Irving said.
There's been a lot of chatter about Irving's injury, whether it was the fact he was averaging 39.3 minutes per game in the 10 contests before he suffered this blow, or the fact that he hit two free throws after suffering the injury before exiting the game. Amid all that, Irving sent another message on social media that turned some heads.
"Thank you GOD. I understand that my calling on earth is bigger than basketball and it's not just about me. This moment was for all of my brothers and sisters who also put GOD first. I know how powerfully unified we are through our unwavering faith. I am that I am. Hélà," Irving said in response to a post on X showing him hitting his free throws before limping off the court.
