Atlanta Falcons QB Kirk Cousins Back To Minnesota?

Kirk Cousins recently met with Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank regarding his future with the team.

So far, nothing has been set in stone regarding the Falcons' approach to Kirk Cousins. All signs point to Kirk Cousins wanting out of Atlanta because he thinks he has a few years of productive football left in him.

At the same time, Cousins has a no-trade clause in his contract, and it appears he will not be willing to waive it. He wants to approve the team he ends up with, and has requested that it be a winning franchise.

A financial decision would need to be made, but whatever Atlanta chooses to do with Cousins will be a significant hit to the wallet. Having signed a $180 million deal and already collected a $27.5 million signing bonus, Cousins is due another $10 million soon.

Rumors have swirled that suggest Cousins may head back to the Minnesota Vikings. With J.J. McCarthy scheduled to be the starter on paper, this could be a great thing or highly detrimental to McCarthy's confidence. McCarthy is returning from a knee injury and was supposed to be the starting quarterback last season.

The only reason Cousins would work out back in Minnesota is that the salary would be coming from Atlanta, easing the high-paid backup role. All of this puts the Falcons between a rock and a hard place.

If Cousins were to be a backup, and Atlanta has to pay the salary anyway, why not keep him around in Atlanta? The whole situation will need to be ironed out soon, otherwise we could be looking at a toxic situation plaguing the Atlanta Falcons in the coming weeks.
