**GIANTS RE-SIGN JAMIE GILLAN AND CHRIS MANHERTZ…**
The New York Giants re-signed punter **Jamie Gillan** and tight end **Chris Manhertz** on Saturday. Free agency officially starts on Wednesday, with the legal tampering period beginning on Monday. Both players were scheduled to become unrestricted free agents. Gillan’s contract is reportedly a 3-year, $10.2 million deal that includes $4 million in guaranteed money. Manhertz’s contract is reportedly a 1-year deal.
In his third season with the Giants, Gillan remains an average-at-best punter. He averaged 43.7 yards per punt with a net of 40.5. To his credit, 27 of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line with only two touchbacks. Gillan is Scottish born. He was originally signed by the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted rookie free agent after the 2019 NFL Draft. He punted for the Browns from 2019-2021, but the Browns cut him December 2021. Gillan has a strong leg and he has won a couple of “Special Teams Player of the Week” honors, one with the Browns and one with the Giants.
The Giants signed Manhertz in March 2024 after he was released by the Denver Broncos. He played in all 17 games with 11 starts, serving primarily as a blocking tight end. Manhertz received 30 percent of all offensive snaps and caught just three passes for 30 yards and a touchdown. The 6’6”, 235-pound Manhertz was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Buffalo Bills after the 2015 NFL Draft. He has spent time with the Bills, New Orleans Saints (2015-2016), Carolina Panthers (2016-2020), Jacksonville Jaguars (2021-2022), and Broncos (2023). In his nine NFL seasons, Manhertz has played in 137 regular-season games with 64 starts, catching 29 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns. He is a strong blocker.
