Charges dropped against Kansas City Chiefs star arrested in Texas, attorney says

GEORGETOWN, Texas. (KCTV/Gray News) - All charges have been dropped against Chiefs Wide Receiver Xavier Worthy after he was arrested in Texas over the weekned.

Worthy’s attorney, Sam Bassett, confirmed that all charges filed against the rising Chiefs star had been dismissed.

Information in the court records system had also been recalled, KCTV reported.

Bassett noted that the District Attorney chose not to go forward with the case. His office will continue to cooperate.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the 21-year-old was arrested on Friday in Georgetown, Texas.

Worthy had been booked on one charge of “assault fam/house mem impede breath/circulat,” which, according to Texas law, is a third-degree felony assault charge.

It specifically refers to assault on a family or household member and “is committed by intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the person’s throat or neck or by blocking the person’s nose or mouth.”

Worthy is a wide receiver for the Chiefs. After being selected with the 28th pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Worthy recorded 59 receptions for 638 yards, 104 rushing yards and 9 total touchdowns as a rookie.

In the playoffs, he became Kansas City’s leading receiver, totaling a team-leading 19 receptions for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Chiefs’ three playoff games.

The Chiefs issued a brief statement Saturday, saying, “We are aware and gathering information.”
