Update: Charges dismissed against Chiefs’ and former Central High star Xavier Worthy

UPDATE: Charges have been dismissed against Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy and former Central High star Xavier Worthy after the Williamson County authorities declined to press charges, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

ORIGINAL STORY: Former Central High star and current Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested Friday and booked into Williamson County jail on suspicion of assaulting family/house members impeding breathing/circulation.

The arrest took place in Georgetown, Texas in Williamson County, just north of Austin where Worthy previously played for the University of Texas.

What led up to the incident is unknown. As of Saturday morning, he was still booked in jail.

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking into the matter, according to reports.

According to Texas Law, impede breathing is an “offense committed by intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the person’s throat or neck or by blocking the person’s nose or mouth.”

The offense is a third-degree felony and Worthy is facing two to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Worthy’s lawyers sent a statement to Pro Football Talk Saturday.

“We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest. We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they have the benefit of the totality of circumstances that led to this allegation.

“The complainant was asked multiple times over the last two weeks to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity, which a private investigator has video evidence of. She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy. The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of. Mr. Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident that he did not want to press charges against the complainant.

“We will continue to cooperate with Williamson County authorities as we have full faith their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence.”

Worthy was selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He finished the season with 638 receiving yards and six touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. He also had two touchdowns in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Worthy helped Central to a state championship in 2019.
