Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested in Texas, but he won't face charges.
The NFL player, 21, was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence on Friday, March 7, per Williamson County online jail records. The charge is considered a third-degree felony, according to the Texas penal code.
Records show that Worthy was initially to be charged with assault on a family or household member, committed by impeding their “normal breathing or blood circulation,” which the penal code defines as “applying pressure to the person's throat or neck or by blocking the person's nose or mouth.”
However, on Saturday, March 8, Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick told The Austin American-Statesman that his office will not be accepting the case after multiple witnesses were spoken to.
“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office,” an email from Dick’s office said to the outlet. “Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation."
“We will continue to evaluate the case. As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury," the statement continued.
Worthy has since been released from police custody.

“The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity,” Worthy’s attorneys alleged. “She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.”
“We will continue to cooperate with the Williamson County authorities as we have full faith that their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence,” the lawyers added.
Worthy’s lawyers, Sam Bassett and Chip Lewis, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on March 8, nor did the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office or District Attorney Dick's office.
