History

Atlanta, GA -- Georgia State baseball benefited from offensive bursts in the third and seventh innings, but struggled defensively as they fell to visiting Western Carolina by a final score of 16-12 on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers found themselves playing catch-up early and often in game two of the three game weekend series. After letting up three runs in the top of the first, the hosts pulled within one courtesy of Colin Hynek's fourth home run of the season, 3-2 after two.

The Catamounts appeared to blow the game wide open in the third, when they posted six runs to take a 9-2 lead. The Panthers, however, were quick to close the gap once again. Hynek's second homer of the afternoon was one of four extra base hits, helping the team post a six-spot of their own, cutting the lead to 9-8.

Another six unanswered runs for Western Carolina in the sixth and seventh innings put their run total at 15. William Maginnis and Andon Lewis each added a pair of RBI to their strong showings in the seventh, but the four-run frame was not enough. The visitors held on to win game two of the series, 16-12.

The two squads will face off again for a rubber match at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
