LeBron James injury: Lakers star leaves Celtics game in crunch time

BOSTON — LeBron James left Saturday’s game against the [Celtics](https://www.masslive.com/celtics/2025/03/boston-celtics-injury-report-kristaps-porzingis-downgraded-for-lakers-game.html) with an apparent leg injury midway through the fourth quarter. James appeared to suffer the injury while making a post move in the paint against Jaylen Brown with 7:05 remaining in the fourth quarter. James ran gingerly up the floor on the ensuing defensive possession and proceeded to call for a sub after the Celtics scored a layup. JJ Redick immediately called a timeout on the Lakers next possession.

James worked with the Lakers training staff for much of the timeout and was taken out of the game for Jared Vanderbilt after the timeout. The Lakers ruled him out for the game with a groin injury moments later as James headed to the locker room with a few minutes remaining in an eventual 111-101 Celtics win.

James had put together a sensational performance prior to the injury, nearly posting a triple-double with 22 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists over 35 minutes. He was one of the few bright spots for a Lakers team that was competitive with Boston in the first half but fell behind by 22 points in the second half after the visitors mustered just 13 third quarter points.

James was helping lead a fourth quarter comeback prior to his injury as the Lakers trimmed the Celtics’ lead all the way down to seven points before he came out of the game. The Lakers got as close as four points in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter but the Celtics put the game away with a 10-2 run with James sidelined.
