Paul Merson Predicts The Result As Manchester United Take On Arsenal

Paul Merson expects Manchester United to lose comfortably when they face Arsenal on Sunday evening.

Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Merson said that the away side will be buoyed by their performance against PSV midweek:

“I’d be shocked if Arsenal don’t win. Their qualification to the Champions League quarter-final is sealed thanks to the 7-1 first-leg win and they can now have a real go here. That makes this a dangerous game for United.”

“Arsenal have to keep winning every single game from now on and hope Liverpool slip up. Historically, Manchester United have always turned up for games against Arsenal. But honestly, I don’t see them doing it this weekend!”

What score has Merson predicted?

The Sky Sports pundit has gone with a 3-1 win to Arsenal, which is a scoreline that will disappoint Red Devils supporters.

Considering that Ruben Amoirm’s side have lost 7 of their 14 home games this campaign, though, fans are right to be pessimistic heading into the fixture.

Manchester United v Arsenal team news

The Red Devils have NINE players currently unavailable due to injury. Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte are both doubts due to knocks, while Mason Mount (thigh), Luke Shaw (leg), Kobbie Mainoo (knock) and Altay Bayindir are not fit enough to return to the matchday squad yet.

Amad Diallo (ankle) and Lisandro Martinez (ACL) have been ruled out for the rest of the season, while Jonny Evans is out for an indefinite period with a back problem. Patrick Dorgu is suspended after being sent off against Ipswich.

The Gunners, meanwhile, will be without Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli due to hamstring problems. Neither player will make his comeback before the next international break. Gabriel Jesus (ACL), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee) and Kai Havertz (hamstring) have had operations and won’t play again this campaign.
