**ISTANBUL**
Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, said Saturday that he met Jonathan Powell, national security adviser to the UK prime minister, to discuss steps toward a just and lasting peace with Russia.
The meeting was part of ongoing collaboration with international partners on a peace plan and ahead of a gathering between Ukrainian and US delegations in Saudi Arabia.
Yermak said on Telegram that discussions focused on initial steps proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the European Council meeting in Brussels, including a cessation of attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure, halting naval military operations and the release of prisoners.
He briefed Powell on proposals from France, Nordic countries and the Baltic states, emphasizing key issues such as security guarantees, conditions for a potential cease-fire and maintaining sanctions against Russia.
“We paid special attention to increasing military and financial support for Ukraine and strengthening Europe’s defense capabilities,” said Yermak.
He expressed gratitude for the UK’s continued support.
