Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca given clear instruction on which goalkeeper to start

Joe Cole has cast doubt on Chelsea's goalkeeping situation, suggesting that neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen are up to the mark to claim the No. 1 jersey.

The former Blues forward believes that Enzo Maresca should keep rotating his shot-stoppers based on the opposing team. Speaking to Paddy Power, Cole stated: "The goalkeeper position at Chelsea is a tough one, as neither Robert Sanchez nor Filip Jorgensen are performing that well.

"You want one of them to stand out from the rest and put a string of good performances together, but neither of them are doing it.

"It's horses for courses with both, which is mad to say for a goalkeeper."

On choosing between the two, he noted: "If Chelsea are going to dominate possession, then I would pick Sanchez as he helps in the build-up of play, whereas Jorgensen is a little bit safer in the sense that he makes the saves he's supposed to make."

He concluded that until one of the keepers shows consistent form and seals their spot as the definitive first-choice, it will be a game-by-game decision: "It's not where Chelsea want to be, but I think in certain games, you play certain keepers, until one of them develops, performs consistently well and cements the number one spot."

Currently, Jorgensen is front-runner for Maresca, starting in Premier League matches over Spaniard Sanchez, yet the ex-Brighton keeper is vying to win back the No. 1 position after starting Thursday's 2-1 Conference match.
