Tensions are escalating in Syria's southern province of Suwayda between local Druze residents and the Sunni-led central government, as the latter seeks to assert its authority in the Druze-majority region.
The situation has further intensified following statements by Israeli officials expressing readiness to protect the Druze community in Syria if the country's new rulers were to launch any attacks against them.
