The Lilywhites have been striving for better performances going into the final stride of their2024/25 campaign and realistically, Europa League is the only way they can salvage out of what has been a disappointing season at N17 given how the North Londoners are struggling at the bottom half of the Premier League table alongside that horrendous defeat against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi finals. But there is still hope, hope that Tottenham Hotspur can push for a late European qualification race in the English top tier and they are set to face Bournemouth this weekend to keep pushing for a probable qualifying prospects.
That being said, at the moment the priorities lie in the Europa League and we may see the glimpse of that when the Australian head coach puts out the playing eleven at the weekend. There could be a few players rested given that the North Londoners are trailing in the Europa League knockout game against AK Alkmaar and given how Spurs are to prioritise UEFA’s second tier competition, it is certain that Ange would rest a few stars.
Bissouma and Sarr to be given their opportunities with Bergvall and Bentancur rested?
Let’s look at Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup
Speaking about the lineup, let’s get first thing out of the way – goalkeeper. Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian ace has been impressive since coming back from his injury absence and he should continue starting in goal for the Lilywhites.
Going into the defence, this one is a bit tricky. Djed Spence has been impressive lately and Ange Postecoglou may decide to rest the former Middlesbrough full back and hand Pedro Porro a start in the right back role. Kevin Danso should pair up with Archie Gray in the heart of the backline with Micky van de Ven rested given the Dutchman will be needed in the midweek and his minutes need to be managed. Gray has been impressive in the centre-back role and he should pair up with Destiny Udogie at the left back.
Coming into the middle of the park. The duo of Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall have provided lots of stability in the midfield with their understanding of passes and presses, but again, Ange may decide to rest both of them and hand Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma a rare start as they form a pivot ahead of the backline. James Maddison completes the midfield three, but the England international could be handed a more offensive role given how he has been struggling in that eight role – but with two base players, Ange can work with some freedom to Maddison.
Getting into the offensive line; Dominik Solanke would be expected to be rested given his another injury scare in the midweek when AK Alkmaar’s goalkeeper put his knee into his lower back and he was forced off. Mathys Tel should start in that centre forward role with Brennan Johnson and Heung-Min Son supporting the Bayern Munich loanee on right and left wings respectively.
