Blackburn Rovers man on radar of Manchester United ahead of the summer

Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Aynsley Pears has emerged on the radar of Manchester United, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.

Blackburn Rovers’ stopper is a shock target for the Premier League side ahead of the summer. Rovers may have a decision to make regarding his future at Ewood Park if an offer came in from the Red Devils.

Pears, 26, has been on the books of the Lancashire outfit since he joined them back in 2020. He has since made 97 appearances in all competitions to date, 35 of which have come this season.

In this latest update regarding his situation, reporter Nixon has claimed on Patreon that Manchester United have placed him on their shortlist ahead of the next transfer window. Ruben Amorim’s side have underperformed in this campaign and find themselves in 15th place in the table as they gear up for their upcoming clash against Arsenal.

Pears is under contract at Blackburn Rovers until June 2027 so they are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon.

He had to bide his time for opportunities during his first couple of seasons with Rovers due to competition from Thomas Kaminski, who is now at Luton Town.

The ‘keeper has made the number one spot his own over recent times and is now being linked with Manchester United.

Teams in the top flight need to have a certain number of homegrown players in their squad.

After penning an extension to his deal in 2023, Pears said, as per BBC Sport: “I’ve got some game time and that’s all I’ve wanted since I joined the club. My future here is hopefully playing many more games and getting the club to where it wants to be.

“I didn’t get the games during my first couple of years – I was on the bench a lot but still worked hard and felt I was getting a lot better as a goalkeeper. You can only prove that with games and I think I have done over the last part of the season. I’m looking forward to what the future could bring.”

He rose up through the ranks at Middlesbrough and went on to play 25 matches, as well as having loan spells away at Darlington and Gateshead.

Time will tell whether Manchester United end up lodging an offer approach for Pears.

Blackburn Rovers lost 2-1 away at Derby County this weekend and play Stoke City next.
