Pep Guardiola and Cristina Serra have 'started divorce proceedings'

Pep Guardiola and his estranged wife Cristina Serra spent three days together at their £8.4million home in Barcelona - prompting speculation the two are trying to repair their marriage.

The Manchester City boss jumped on a private plane to the Catalan capital last Saturday following his club’s FA Cup fifth round win over Plymouth. And with a free midweek after their Champions League elimination, he headed straight to the mansion in the upmarket Barcelona neighbourhood of Pedralbes the couple purchased in 2021.

Spanish media reporting on the get-together say it is too early to talk about reconciliation following confirmation of their shock split in January and recent news they are using the same divorce lawyer.

But they have described the reunion, believed to be the first since Christmas, as a “bridging of the divide” that had built up between them. It is understood the two spent three days in Barcelona together, before Guardiola returned to Manchester on Tuesday morning.

The Spanish paparazzi who obtained images - published by the Sun - of the two said Pep had referred to Cristina as “mi mujer” which in English would translate as ‘my wife’ - appearing to indicate the couple have yet to sign divorce papers.

Cristina moved back to Barcelona in 2019 with the youngest of their three children and is said to have called time on their relationship after Pep’s shock decision last November to renew his Man City contract for another two years.

Last month, it was confirmed that the pair had initiated divorce proceedings through the same lawyer in order to make the process as amicable as possible.

The couple’s eldest daughter Maria opened up on her parents’ lessons about love after becoming the first family member to speak since the shock news of their split.

“My parents have always advised me to find what I am passionate about,” Maria told a Spanish magazine in an interview published shortly after the shock news of their split.

“They encourage me to try new things, to accept failure and to keep searching until I find my calling, because when I do, full dedication will come naturally. They also remind me that the most important thing in life is to love and be loved.”

She added: “In the end it all comes down to feeling loved. Even in situations where we feel out of place, they tell me to listen carefully to others, there is always something valuable to learn from each person we meet.”

The City boss was back in the dugout on Saturday afternoon, but only to see Manchester City’s miserable campaign continue. The four-time Premier League champions were beaten by Nottingham Forest at The City Ground to put their place in the top four in serious jeopardy.
