Liverpool are‘at the front of the queue’ to sign Premier League defender

Liverpool have big decisions to make this summer.

The club has been quiet in recent transfer windows, but that could change soon.

With key players aging and defensive depth needed, the Reds are expected to strengthen their squad.

The team has done well this season, but they know improvements are needed.

The first half of the campaign exposed some defensive issues, and while results have been positive, there is room to grow.

A new centre-back is high on the list as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, and Liverpool are now reportedly leading the race for one of the Premier League’s most in-demand defenders.

Liverpool are ‘at the front of the queue’ to sign Premier League defender

According to former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, Liverpool are “at the front of the queue” to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Newcastle United tried to sign him last summer with a £70 million bid, but Palace refused to sell.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, Robinson explained that Palace are “prepared to listen to offers”, but they will not let Guehi go cheaply.

He said, “Palace aren’t going to let him leave on a free, so this is the summer they’re going to cash in and get the money for him.”

Guehi’s contract will have just 12 months left, which could slightly lower his price, but Robinson believes that won’t be the case.

He stated, “The fee may slightly have dropped – but potentially not because there’s going to be a bidding war.”

Newcastle remain interested, but Liverpool’s financial position gives them an edge.

Robinson added, “Liverpool, at the moment with the lack of recruitment in the last two windows, are at the front of the queue because they’ve got room to bring players in.”

Now, it all depends on who is willing to meet Palace’s demands.
