Just a couple of days ago, David Moyes voiced his displeasure at the lack of goal contributions from his on-loan winger pairing. Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom, on loan from Leeds United and Napoli respectively, had failed to register a goal or an assist this season until Saturday.
“Let’s be fair, you won’t have longevity if you’re not going to get me assists and you’re not going to get me goals. You have to find ways of coming up with those numbers, it’s just the world that we’re in,” he sounded off at the pre-match press conference.
“We can get all the statistics now and we can talk about it. Those two are both attacking players, I think both of them have done well but yeah, I need goals from them, I need assists from them. They both need to improve. They’ve done a really good job in recent weeks but there's parts of the game we want them to improve on.”
The veteran manager’s words seemed to work a trick when both Lindstrom and Harrison combined to score the opening goal for Everton at Molineux Stadium. After collecting the ball from Tarkowski in the final third, Lindstrom lifted his head up to find Harrison in acres of space on the left. He took a touch to make his way into the box and rifled in a shot that took a couple of deflections and beat Jose Sa at his far post.
Harrison finally got on the scoresheet for the first time in 39 appearances while Lindstrom registered his first assist of the season which delighted Moyes.
“We can't keep expecting Beto [to score]. We need Jesper and Jack to come up with the goals and Jack's got one today, which I'm pleased about. He scored a few goals in his time at Leeds United, so he knows how to do it and I'm glad he got one tonight,” Moyes said post-match.
“One's not enough for me, you know, we need [Harrison and Lindstrøm] to come up with more and more assists but I’m pleased they got the goal tonight.”
