Through his first eight NFL seasons, offensive tackle Cam Robinson never reached free agency. The Jacksonville Jaguars used their franchise tag after the 2020 and 2021 seasons to keep the former Alabama All-American off the open market, and the second time around also signed Robinson to a contract extension that reaches its end on Wednesday.
Robinson finished the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings, who obtained him in a trade when their left tackle, Christian Darrisaw, went down with a season-ending injury.
With Darrisaw returning, Robinson will become available this week, likely viewed as the top free-agent tackle after Ronnie Stanley and Baltimore reached agreement on a three-year, $60 million contract on Saturday that will keep him with the Ravens.
Robinson can begin entertaining offers at 11 a.m. CDT Monday, when the negotiating period opens for players who will become free agents at 3 p.m. Wednesday. NFL players with expiring contracts and four seasons in the league will become unrestricted free agents this week.
Robinson is among the 35 players from Alabama high schools and colleges who are on schedule to become unrestricted free agents on Wednesday afternoon. NFL.com lists 12 of them among the best 99 players available in free agency:
No. 7: Cornerback Carlton Davis (Auburn)

No. 99: Cornerback Michael Jackson (Spain Park)
Allen is different from the other players on the list. He’s already a free agent after being released by the Washington Commanders on Friday. Allen doesn’t have to wait until Wednesday to sign.
Another former Alabama defensive lineman, Raekwon Davis, is in the same situation. The Indianapolis Colts released Davis on Thursday.
The other players from Alabama high schools and colleges on NFL active rosters or reserve lists at the end of the 2024 regular season who are eligible to become unrestricted free agents on Wednesday include:
Ameer Abdullah, running back, Homewood
Kwon Alexander, linebacker, Auburn
Bradley Bozeman, center, Handley, Alabama

Five other NFL players from Alabama high schools and colleges met the criteria to become restricted free agents this week -- a player with three NFL seasons and an expiring contract. Like unrestricted free agents, restricted free agents can negotiate with any interested teams, but their original teams can tender restricted free agents with qualifying offers from four tiers. All the tenders give the original teams the ability to match any contract offer before losing a player and some carry draft-pick compensation if a player signs elsewhere.
One didn’t make it to free agency: Cornerback Josh Jobe (Alabama) re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday.
None of the other four have been tendered, and they’ll become unrestricted free agents this week if their current teams don’t do so:
Guard Lester Cotton, Central-Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Wide receiver Velus Jones Jr., Saraland
Cornerback Christian Matthew, Samford
Wide receiver Anthony Schwartz, Auburn
Another type of NFL free agent is the exclusive-rights free agent. An ERFA is a player with fewer than three seasons and an expiring contract. If his original team offers the ERFA a contract, he cannot negotiate with other teams.
The NFL’s pending exclusive-rights free agents included five with Alabama football roots, but Carolina tendered a contract to defensive lineman LaBryan Ray (James Clemens, Alabama), so he’ll be back with the Panthers in 2025. Still awaiting offers that will keep them out of free agency this week are:
Wide receiver Grant DuBose (Park Crossing, Miles) from the Miami Dolphins
Linebacker Jeremiah Moon (Hoover) from the Pittsburgh Steelers
Offensive tackle Kadeem Telfort (UAB) from the Green Bay Packers
Linebacker Chandler Wooten (Auburn) from the Carolina Panthers
