Man Utd face Arsenal in the Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.
Ruben Amorim believes Joshua Zirkzee has shown signs of improvement since he switched to an attacking midfield role for Manchester United. The 23-year-old was signed to provide another option up front but has struggled to adapt his unique style of play to the Premier League.
Zirkzee has just six goals in 41 appearances for the club and admits he sees himself as a mix of a forward and an attacking midfielder, rather than a natural striker. The Dutchman has endured a difficult debut but has looked better in recent matches when used as one of the two attacking midfielders behind Rasmus Hojlund.
The former Bologna star will start again when United host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, and Amorim is pleased with the signs of improvement he has shown.
Joshua Zirkzee has improved since position change
Speaking ahead of the upcoming clash with Arsenal, head coach Ruben Amorim was asked about what improvements he had seen in recent weeks. Joshua Zirkzee is the standout example, while Manchester United are also looking to find Bruno Fernandes' best role in the new tactical set-up.
"In the small things in our game, I see improvement," he told club media. "It's hard to see but I see it. "I think we are improving in the last two games [before Real Sociedad], for example, the way we have possession. Our central defenders are playing in a different way, more confident.
"And, if they play well, our team will play better. I think some players are improving individually. Josh, I think is improving, in changing, a little bit, the position. We are trying to find a better space for Bruno but sometimes you want him, yes, everywhere as he's really important for us.
"Even against Ipswich, we suffered a goal and we continued to play the same way and I feel, in these small details, I feel that the team believes a little bit more. The rest, I think, it's hard to see things in this season. It's more here in Carrington, the way we are training, the intensity, and we are trying to find a way to improve the team."
