Manchester City star might take pay-cut to join Tottenham Hotspur

City player Jack Grealish will be seeking a move away from the club in the summer

Manchester City player Jack Grealish will have to take a pay cut if he wants to join Tottenham Hotspur. The 29-year-old has not lived up to his expectations at City and it looks increasingly likely that Grealish will end up leaving.

The England international was bought by Pep Guardiola in the summer of 2021 for a record £100million from Aston Villa. Manchester City were battling out with city rivals Manchester United for the talented winger’s signature. But it was the Cityzens who won the race to bolster their attack.

Jack Grealish has not been a good signing for Manchester City

However, Jack Grealish has not been up to the mark and it has been one the rare times where City have got a signing wrong. As per Sofascore, the English winger has scored just three goals and provided two assists in his last two season in the Premier League. This has been really shocking as Pep Guardiola’s side are known for their attacking prowess.

According to Sofascore, the 29-year-old has played just 16 matches in the league this season, failing to score in any and providing just one assist during that time. It is fair to say that Grealish has failed to make a mark at Etihad Stadium and it is not going to get better for the ex-Villa winger.

Grealish will have to sacrifice his wages to join Spurs

According to Dean Jones of GIVEMESPORT, Jack Grealish will have to sacrifice his wages and take a pay cut of 33% if he wants to have any chance of joining Spurs. The winger is one of the highest paid players in the City squad, so moving to a rival team will come at a cost.

GMS also reports that Spurs will not sacrifice their finances to sign the England international and a move abroad is the more feasible option. Journalist Dean Jones, in his daily transfer blog for GMS, said,

“The 29-year-old is one of Manchester City’s top earners, with a weekly salary of around £300,000. That is a significant figure, especially when compared to Spurs’ current wage structure, which caps salaries at just under £200,000-a-week – the same amount that Heung-min Son earns***.***”

It is also reported by GMS that Chelsea and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Grealish’s future. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and legendary Italian club AC Milan are also looking at the ex-Villa winger’s status.

Will a move to Spurs rejuvenate Grealish’s career?

A move away from Manchester City might just be what Jack Grealish needs. Ange Postecoglou’s side play free flowing, attacking football and players are not limited to a system or a position.

A move to Spurs might just be what Grealish needs to revive his career

Grealish was known for his flair and the ability to take on a man during his Aston Villa days. However, the 29-year-old has lost that flair due to the rigid system that Pep Guardiola wants his team to play.

With Heung-min Son likely to leave the club in the summer, a move for Jack Grealish would be a shrewd option. The weight of the price tag will not be there on the England international’s shoulders and he might just benefit from the way Spurs play under Ange Postecoglou.
