Robin Olsen admits he’s not used to being in the limelight after he was serenaded by Aston Villa fans for his performance in the 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday night.

Emi Martinez wasn’t risked against the Bees as he was carrying a small injury, meaning Olsen was handed his first league start of the campaign.

Ollie Watkins broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, firing past Mark Flekken inside the box.

After Morgan Rogers’ goal was chalked off by VAR for an offside on Watkins, Brentford hit the post in the 71st minute, before seeing two penalty shouts turned down.

“I’m so happy,” Olsen told VillaTV. “I’m so proud of the boys and the team, we knew that it’s a really tough away game.

“We knew that we had to play at our best, so we did everything we spoke about before the game. I’m just so pleased and proud of the team.”

“It’s never easy to have a one-nil lead, I knew they would push us a little bit more. We were struggling a little bit but we defended our box brilliantly.

“We deserved this clean sheet and those three points. It means a lot to me personally and for the team as well. It means a lot."

After full-time, as Villa players were thanking away fans for their constant support, Olsen was pushed to the front by Morgan Rogers and then Tyrone Mings so he could take in the adulation coming from the away end.

“I don’t know what to say, I’m not used to that,” Olsen admitted.

“Of course, it’s always nice to celebrate with the fans who have travelled down here and supported us for 90 minutes. It’s just nice to celebrate with them.”
