'We are confident': PSG player makes claim about Tuesday's visit to Anfield after thumping weekend win

After Liverpool picked up three more Premier League points on Saturday, their attention must once again turn towards the Champions League and Paris Saint Germain.

The Reds are in a good position heading into Tuesday’s last-16 second-leg, after snatching a 1-0 win away in Paris.

However, Liverpool were second best for much of their game at the Parc des Princes and are going to have to be far better at Anfield.

The signs of that happening were not there on Saturday, as Liverpool laboured to a slightly unconvincing win over Southampton.

Although they came to life in the second half to score three goals and win 3-1, the Reds were woeful in the opening 45 minutes, putting in a display reminiscent of what we saw in the French capital.

By contrast, PSG romped to a 4-1 win at Rennes on Saturday. And speaking after that game, Desire Doue admitted that confidence within the camp is high heading to Anfield.

Desire Doue confident of Anfield win

The reaction from PSG to Liverpool’s win over them last Wednesday has been interesting to say the least.

Midfielder Vitinha was bullish in the aftermath of the game, claiming that the Ligue 1 champions will definitely progress at Liverpool’s expense.

This has continued in the press, with L’Equipe publishing a story which claimed PSG players were ‘surprised’ by the poor level of the Reds and are more confident than they were before the tie began.

And Doue is the latest to underestimate Liverpool, speaking after Saturday’s win to reaffirm the Parisians confidence that they will have no trouble on Merseyside.

PSG in for a surprise at Anfield

If PSG think Liverpool will simply roll over as they did in Paris this Tuesday, then they are in for a nasty shock.

The Reds do not look in especially good shape heading into the game, which is certainly a worry. But, nevertheless, the Anfield crowd will not allow them to be so sluggishly off the pace once again.

No doubt keen to show the likes of Doue why they have no right to display such confidence, Liverpool fans are certain to be in the best possible voice.

With a 1-0 lead from the first-leg, Liverpool should also hold some confidence that they can beat PSG once again.

Although they were indebted to Alisson Becker’s brilliance on the night, the Reds did also create some good openings despite not playing well. They will be better on Tuesday, and by the sounds of things, PSG simply are not prepared for that.
