Dubai: In an audacious scheme that has shocked Iraq, a 35-year-old man tricked eight women from different regions into marrying him one after another, only to divorce them shortly after, stripping them of their financial savings and vanishing without a trace.
According to one of the wives who spoke to the media and shared her story, some of the marriages lasted only a few months, while others lasted just a few weeks. Three of the wives were from Baghdad, while the remaining five were from different regions of Iraq.
The eighth wife, the last to fall prey to the man’s scheme, told Al Sharqiya TV that the con artist worked in the luxury car sector. He rented high-end vehicles to create the illusion of affluence, successfully convincing his victims of his wealth.

She added that he tricked her into selling her car and withdrawing her savings of 25 million Iraqi dinars, as well as $69,000, claiming he intended to purchase a piece of land for both of them. However, just two days after handing him the money, she was shocked to receive divorce papers without any explanation.
The women, realizing they were all victims of the same scam, decided to create a WhatsApp group to share information about the man and seek solutions. The number of women who joined the group grew to eight as more victims connected via social media.
The wife who spoke on television described how she and the other women were all courted in a formal manner, with weddings held according to local customs and traditions. Families and tribes were present at each ceremony, and each woman had her own wedding celebration without raising suspicion.
She said that her husband disappeared only three days after their wedding, briefly reappearing before vanishing again. This cycle continued without explanation, initially leading her to believe it was a normal pattern. Eventually, the truth was revealed.
The other wives reached out to her, sending pictures and conversations that confirmed their marriages with the man, not only according to tribal customs but also officially registered with legal authorities.
As of now, there has been no official comment from Iraqi authorities on how the man was able to marry eight women simultaneously without detection.
