Newcastle United told to pay significant fee to sign 19-year-old Serie A winger

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United will have to break the bank if they want to sign Como attacking sensation Assane Diao.

According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of Assane Diao, who has taken his game to the next level since moving to Italy. Como do not really have any intentions of parting ways with the teenage sensation unless there is crazy money on the table.

Diao came up the ranks at Real Betis. He got promoted to their first team towards the end of 2023 and made quite a name for himself while playing for them. While clubs across Europe recognised his immense potential, Como moved swiftly to secure his signature in the last winter transfer window.

The Serie A upstart forked out a club-record fee worth £10 million to add Assane Diao to their squad mid-season. The youngster has been a regular starter for the Serie A outfit, and he already has five goals in his 10 outings. The right-winger has had an exceptional start to life in Italy, and quite a few top clubs have taken note of his performances.

Newcastle United keen on Diao

Newcastle are United one of the clubs that are interested in the 19-year-old winger who can feature anywhere across the frontline. The Magpies are looking for a new right-winger. They want an upgrade on Jacob Murphy, having already parted ways with Miguel Almiron.

While Eddie Howe’s team were in the market for a winger during the winter window and showed interest in Assane Diao, things did not go according to plan. Heading into the next summer window, it will be one of their top priorities. While they have quite a few names on their wishlist, the teenager has caught the eye of the Tyneside club’s scouts thanks to his performances for Como.

He is an ideal fit for their long-term project, and they could certainly make a move for him after the end of the ongoing season. But, signing him from Como won’t be easy as his contract there runs until the summer of 2029, and they are in no rush to let go of one of their most valuable assets.

The Serie A club will only sanction his departure if there is a massive offer on the table. In simple terms, Newcastle United will have to go all out if they want to sign Diao ahead of next season.
