Jets Closely Eyeing AFC Rival Quarterback Decision

The New York Jets want to add a veteran quarterback to their roster to join Tyrod Taylor and a future rookie signal-caller as well to battle it out this offseason to see who will be named the starting quarterback for the new season.

The player at the top of their list, though, is Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. The former Ohio State product has struggled to develop into a quality passer in this league and has played for two teams in each of the last two years.

But while the Jets may have interest in bringing Fields to Florham Park, not everyone is convinced that he would be willing to leave Pittsburgh and head coach Mike Tomlin.

Even if negotiations have fallen flat to this point.

"The Steelers and Justin Fields are not close together on a deal that would bring Fields back to Pittsburgh before the start of free agency, leading to growing sentiment that he will indeed test the market, per team and league sources," as reported by Alan Saunders. "That is, unless somebody blinks."

Fields has improved his completion percentage in every year as a passer but has struggled with consistency so much that despite going 4-2 as the Steelers starting quarterback, Pittsburgh opted to bench him for Russell Wilson.

Fields threw five touchdowns to just one interception this past season. If he continues to improve,he could grow into a starting caliber quarterback.

And it's why the Jet are so intrigued with a young player like this - especially one looking for certain issues from yesterday.
