Carmine Gallo, a former top police officer who was under house arrest in relation to a probe into an alleged snooping ring, died of a heart attack at the age of 66 at his home in the province of Milan on Sunday, his lawyer, Antonella Augimeri, said.
Gallo was among the alleged ringleaders of a gang that got confidential information from national databases on business, political and showbusiness figures, along with ex-Milan Fair Foundation president Enrico Pazzali.
The snooping was allegedly done via Pazzali's Equalize agency.
