Scholars at Kirkby took part in the Premier League Academy Inspires Challenge, which is centred around the theme of 'This Is Everyone’s Game - Gender Equality.'
Players are invited to develop projects that champion gender equality and promote inclusivity, aligning with the Premier League’s commitment to combating discrimination in football.
Liverpool’s U18s helped organise a girls-only tournament featuring five or six-a-side matches for local Year 5 and Year 6 students.
The tournament aimed to empower young females and highlight the significance of inclusivity in football.
Ten teams took part in the tournament, culminating in a final, with Joe Bradshaw’s team Kensington coming out on top.
Bradshaw, who has scored 14 goals for the U18s this season, said: "We’ve being doing preparation every Monday for three or four months now as part of our education programme.
"We’ve been learning about women’s football and how we need to increase the diversity of football, and how women’s football should be celebrated.
"We’ve found the opportunity to make this happen with some year six girls, have a football tournament and help them enjoy the rest of their day at Liverpool."
Schools were also encouraged to have female staff accompany the teams.
One of those teachers, Niamh Cleary, from Kensington Primary School, said: "Our Year 5 and 6 girls played five games today and were fortunate to win in the end. All the schools played amazingly.
"We have a very large girls football club in our school, about 40 girls from year three to year six and it’s been a huge group effort to promote more girls football in the school and beyond.
"The girls love it; they have such a great time and we’re all so very proud of them."
Summing up what was a fantastic event for International Women’s Day, Academy head of education and personal development Caitlin Hawkins said she was thrilled by the efforts of the players to make the day a huge success.
She reflected: "This day has been a brilliant culmination of six weeks working in harmony with the LFC Foundation as part of their Premier League Inspires initiative. The boys led, managed and prepared the whole tournament themselves right up to giving out the prizes at the end."
