Dolphins Predicted to Sign 49ers’ Talented Safety in NFL Free Agency

With franchise cornerstone safety Jevon Holland hitting the open market, the Miami Dolphins have a massive hole at the back end of their secondary.

The spot across from Holland in the secondary has been a revolving door in recent years, but Holland has been a consistent pillar of the defense.

Now that Holland has "earned the right to test free agency," according to Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, the team has two safety spots to fill. Could former 49ers All-Pro Talanoa Hufanga be a logical fit for the Miami secondary?

According to Mike Jones of The Athletic, "The Dolphins seem likely to lose Jevon Holland to free agency, so that will leave defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver in need of a difference-making safety. Hufanga has battled some injuries, but when healthy, he is as impactful as they come."

Despite his play falling off in 2024, Holland is expected to command a massive contract this season. It makes sense for Miami to balk at investing in a player coming off his worst professional season.

However, replacing him with someone who hasn't had a healthy season since 2022 is just as risky. Like most negotiations, this potential marriage will come down to price.
