The Seattle Seahawks have already dropped their asking price on a trade for superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf. Metcalf, who requested a trade out of Seattle, wants a new contract and to play in warm weather, according to Dianna Russini of the Athletic.
Originally, the ask for Metcalf was a first and third round picks, but that ask has dropped to just a second-round pick, Russini said on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Steelers might find that more palatable than the initial offer.
The contract ask from Metcalf is around $30 million a year, which would make him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL. Largely, this is the same price the Steelers would have paid for Brandon Aiyuk last year if the trade had gone through.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Metcalf has shined with the Seahawks, and has connections to the Steelers. He played with Russell Wilson, whose moonball helped unlock Metcalf as a deep threat throughout his early years with the Seahawks.
Metcalf has over 6000 career receiving yards, and his unique size and speed combination will make him perfect for the Steelers' vertically focused offense. With the steep asking price, however, it seems likely the Steelers would look elsewhere before diving into the market for Metcalf.
