Timeline: Von Miller's three years with the Buffalo Bills

When Von Miller came to the Buffalo Bills, the veteran pass rusher already had a decorated resume. The future Hall of Famer was a two-time Super Bowl champion, and he was determined to win his third with Buffalo. But Miller’s time with the Bills over three years was up and down. At points, he showed exactly why general manager Brandon Beane brought him to the team in 2022. Other times, he battled injuries, legal accusations and suspensions.

March 16, 2022: Miller joins Bills

A free agent fresh off his second Super Bowl win, Miller made waves when he signed with the Bills on a six-year, $120 million deal. A day later at his opening news conference, Miller declared: "It had to be something special. It had to be the Buffalo Bills."

Sept. 8, 2022: Bills debut

In his first game with the Bills, Miller faced his most recent team, the Los Angeles Rams. The Bills rolled to a 31-10 win in the NFL’s season opener, and Miller himself logged two sacks – his fourth multi-sack outing in an opening game. A few days before the game, Miller was announced as a team captain for the Bills.

Nov. 24, 2022: Knee injury

In a Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions in Detroit, Miller injured his knee and left the game. Initially, he was optimistic about it, claiming on his podcast that he would be back soon.

Dec. 1, 2022: Injured reserve

Aug. 29, 2023: PUP List

Miller began the 2023 season on the Reserve/PUP list. Beane said this was a “very tough” decision, and that Miller was close, but the team wanted to “play it smart” with the veteran pass rusher. "Ultimately, long season,” Beane said at the time. “And we want Von for the stretch run."

Oct. 7, 2023: The return

Miller was activated and able to play. He made his return as the Bills played in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 8. Miller played 20 defensive snaps (22.7%) in his return.

Nov. 30, 2023: Warrant and arrest

During the Bills’ bye week, Miller was accused of a third-degree felony assault of a pregnant woman, the woman being his girlfriend. Miller turned himself in to police and posted bond. When he spoke to the media nearly a month later, he said the accusations were “100% false.” The team stood behind Miller, and he played the weekend after his arrest.

Jan. 19, 2024: Splash play

In the divisional-round win over the Baltimore Ravens, Miller recovered a fumble forced by Damar Hamlin and returned it 39 yards. The Bills offense would score off the takeaway, and go on to win a nailbiter. Still, the Bills fell to Kansas City again one week later, this time in the AFC championship.

March 9, 2025: Release

Miller, who turns 36 this month, was released by the Bills. The move opened up $8.4M in cap space.
