An urgent travel warning was issued ahead of the Manchester United and Arsenal match at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon (March 9).

The Bee Network has alerted possible fans travelling to the game of the ongoing works on the Metrolink lines in Manchester city centre, which last until March 16.

The works, on York Street, mean that no trams will be able to operate from St Peter's Square to Market Street / Piccadilly Gardens. TfGM said all stops will remain open during the works, but that some customers may have to change trams or walk to reach their usual stop.

Ashton-under-Lyne services will operate to Victoria, calling at Piccadilly, Piccadilly Gardens, Market Street and Shudehill en-route. Other cross-city services will divert via Exchange Square.

The alert said that any fans travelling to Old Trafford from Piccadilly Station will need to walk to St Peter's Square or change trams at Victoria to Old Trafford. This will also impact the Manchester United and Real Sociedad game on March 13.

Post-match, trams towards Manchester city centre on the Trafford Park line will not stop at Imperial War Museum. Customers are being asked to use there Wharfside stop for trams back to the city centre or consider walking to Exchange Quay.

The Bee Network also advises fans against travelling to Altrincham to use Old Trafford. This will help ease congestion at Trafford Bar for fans travelling on the East Didsbury and Manchester Airport lines.

Details and maps for fans are available on the Bee Network website here.
