Amanda Staveley will be in attendance when Newcastle United face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

Amanda Staveley has confirmed she will be cheering on Newcastle United from the Wembley stands at next Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

Staveley is a much-loved and admired figure at Newcastle following her role in the £305million takeover of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia in October 2021.

After a deal was finally approved by the Premier League, Staveley’s PCP Partners were handed a 10% stake in the football club and took over the day-to-day running. Alongside husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi, Staveley oversaw a major transformation as Eddie Howe’s side went from battling relegation to qualifying for the Champions League.

It came as a shock to many when Staveley & Ghodoussi left St James’ Park last summer after their remaining shares were acquired by PIF and RB Sports & Media at an 85%/ 15% split.

The pair haven’t attended a Newcastle match since but that will change against Liverpool next weekend, as United look to end their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

Amanda Staveley confirms Carabao Cup final attendance

Speaking to ITV, Staveley revealed: “I'll be there at Wembley with Alexander [her son], Mehrdad and all our family. And we're just so proud of everybody. And we're so excited also for the fans to have this because it's the most incredible day.

“I do feel a bit like a mum, a very proud mum. So I'll be very nervous. And I just, I don't want to embarrass myself. I did last year, I cried a lot. But it's the most remarkable privilege for me to be there with the fans. So I'm looking forward to celebrating as a fan.”

Liverpool are the Premier League champions in waiting, sitting 16 points clear of second place Arsenal. Newcastle, meanwhile, haven’t beat the Reds in almost 10 years and will be without key stars such as Anthony Gordon, Lewis Hall and Sven Botman.

But Staveley said: “I'm really confident that we'll get the win. I know Eddie's and I know the whole team and city are focused on this match. It means the world to everybody.

“I don't want to give any predictions because I don't want to jinx anything. But, I know how much this trophy means to everybody.

“Whatever the result it will be an incredible achievement because getting to two finals in such a short space of time is a testament to all the hard work that the shareholders, PIF, the Reuben family, have put into the club. And it couldn’t happen without the amazing Newcastle community.”

‘Newcastle will always be home’

Staveley was speaking to the TV camera after returning to Newcastle on Friday for an event to mark International Women's Day at the Civic Centre.

“I always feel Newcastle is home, it will always be home,” Staveley added. “I feel so welcome every time I’m here. It is a privilege for me to work and be among these incredible.

“Newcastle is in my heart, very much part of my soul and my DNA. And coming up here this morning, I woke up and thought, ‘Oh, I'm in Newcastle again’ and it feels so special.”
