Browns, Myles Garrett end standoff with huge contract

All of that for nothing as the Cleveland Browns and DE Myles Garrett. The drama surrounding the former Defensive Player of the Year wanting to be traded ramped up on Saturday with Browns owner Jimmy Haslam refusing to meet with Garrett. Then came a report that Garrett was frustrated by the effort of his teammates last year and the possibility of the star defender sitting out games in 2025.

As we reported on the first day of the NFL combine, talks between Garrett and his agents had also started talks on a new contract. At the time, it was believed that the two sides would negotiate a new deal. Instead, a huge extension was agreed to according to multiple reports:

Garrett’s agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports, and Browns general manager Andrew Berry finalized the deal Sunday.

Garrett was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the 2023 season and was a finalist for this year’s award with 14 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, and 44 pressures. Garrett has now had double-digit sacks in every season while with Cleveland except for his rookie year, with 102.5 total for his career.

We will have more details and talk about the impact of the move as we move into NFL free agency starting on Monday.

Are you surprised by the outcome of Garrett’s trade request? How do you feel about the initial contract numbers noted above?
