US issues travel warning for Pakistan over security concerns

ISLAMABAD: The [United States Department of State](https://dailyausaf.com/en/world/at-least-4-killed-in-high-school-shooting-in-united-states/) has issued a Level 3 Travel Advisory, urging its citizens to reconsider travel to Pakistan due to the risks of “terrorism and the potential for armed conflict.”

The advisory warns that “terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist attractions, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government facilities.”

The Global Terrorism Index 2025 ranked Pakistan as the second most terror-affected country in 2024, with a 45 percent increase in deaths from terrorism. The number of attacks more than doubled, surpassing 1,000 for the first time.

The State Department noted that “large cities, especially Islamabad, have greater security resources and infrastructure,” but warned that conditions could change unpredictably. It also warned Americans against attending protests, as some U.S. citizens have been detained for participating in protests or posting content critical of the Pakistani government.

Additionally, travel to Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and areas along the Line of Control (LoC) with India has been classified as Level 4, advising against all travel due to frequent terrorist attacks, killings, and kidnappings.

The advisory also recommends enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), being aware of your surroundings, avoiding crowds, making contingency plans, and obtaining medical insurance with evacuation coverage.
